Mohs Micrographic Surgery

The most complete method to remove skin cancer

    Mohs micrographic surgery is a highly specialized method of skin cancer treatment originally developed by Dr. Frederic Mohs at the University of Wisconsin.  Mohs surgery is performed in an outpatient setting using local anesthesia.  

    Skin cancers can be carefully removed and then checked immediately in the pathology laboratory for any remaining abnormal cells.  Once the tumor is successfully treated, reconstruction of the skin can be performed to restore the normal structure and contour of the skin.

    Mohs surgeons are usually board-certified dermatologists with special additional training.  Membership in the American College of Mohs Surgery requires a one year, intensive, fellowship and ongoing continuing education.
